Our Life Together: Fellowship
In addition to all that we do here at Second Congregational United Church
of Christ in worship, faith formation, service and mission, reaching out,
and pastoral care, we also like simply to be together to have
conversation, share a meal, or do something fun together. The community being together—this is what churches call "fellowship",
and it's something we do in a variety of ways.
Fellowship Groups
Our congregation has a number of organized fellowship groups, with varying
levels and kinds of activities. These include:
- Men's Fellowship
- Women's Fellowship
- Gordon, Cleveland, and Mayflower Circles
- Choir Guild
Activity Gatherings
We also have people that gather on a periodic basis for specific kinds
of activities. These include:
- 2CBC: Second Congregational Book Club
- Ladies' Night Out
- Men's Night Out
Athletic Groups
We have groups within our congregation that gather together for athletic
activities, often competing in church-league sports, such as:
- Church-league Co-Ed Softball teams:
We have 2 teams in the Rockford Church Sports Association Tuesday night Co-ed softball League.
- Church-league basketball teams
Sunday Morning Fellowship Times
- Coffee Hour
All are invited to join in a time of conversation, coffee (and other
beverages), and light snacks after our 10:30 am Sunday morning
worship service. Coffee Hour happens in our church's dining
room / fellowship hall, which is located on the lower level of the
building, in the north wing.
- Pre-church Coffee Hour
Once a month, light breakfast foods and coffee are available in
the "south narthex" (that's the main entranceway off our
parking lot) in the hour preceeding our 10:30 am Sunday morning
worship service. Grab a bite on your way to a Sunday School class,
or hang around for some conversation.
Special Fellowship Events
At a number of points throughout the year, we hold special meals or
other fellowship-oriented events. These include:
- All-Church Picnic at Anna Page Park (held in August)
- Pilgrim Sunday Potluck (Sunday before Thanksgiving)
- Palm Sunday Potluck (Springtime, the Sunday before Easter)
