Our Life Together: Christian Education & Formation

At Second Congregational United Church of Christ, we engage in a wide variety of activities that help shape and form people of all ages in their faith journey. In fact, Christian formation happens through all that we do as a community together: worship, fellowship, ministries of service. Especially now, at the beginning of the 21st century, we recognize that we are not Christian by virtue of simply growing up or living in this society. We need to be formed in the ways, values, stories, and perceptions of a different worldview—the worldview God invites us to share as Christian people.

What has traditionally been called "Christian Education" functions as one piece of the whole picture of all that we do together to help form one another in faith. Even in our educating, we try to keep focused on an overall goal of formation--to form, shape, and mold by engaging the whole person so they may grow in faithfulness.

We believe that people of all ages, from birth to old age, are invited and called to be active participants in the whole life of the congregation--and that all of us must continue to be formed in our faith throughout our life journey. Therefore, we offer education and formation opportunities at all age levels.
